Grand Theft Auto VI is the most expected game of the year.
The long-awaited successor by the developer Rockstar Games is expected in the fall-12 years from the record-breaking GTA V.
While gamers are waiting excitedly for its release, the industry itself is anticipating rumor, and the base game can offer a premium $ 100 (approximately £ 80) price point and still achieve large sales.
The establishment of this precedent can lead to other game publishers wanting to have part of the action by raising their own initial prices.
However, the GTA series boasts two winning ingredients that some other games do not have -brand power and fan loyalty.
Michael Pachter, expert research analyst, told Sky News he believed that Rockstar and the Take-Two Interactive software of the parent company would be able to charge $ 100 with few complaints.
Mr. Pachter, a managing director at the US Wedbush Securities, has highlighted the rising cost of entertainment since GTA V was released in September 2013.
He said: ‘Realistic enough, video games are the only form of entertainment that did not keep the price of inflation.
“Watch movie tickets, concerts, Disneyland, Video On Demand (VOD) – everyone has doubled.”
Mr. Pachter said the key to “charge” more is to justify the value for the consumer.
He explained: “I expect GTA VI to be fully integrated with GTA Online, and Rockstar can offer $ 100-dollars Premium Edition buyers to the game items offer-currency, skins, vehicles, weapons, etc. as a trade in the higher price point.
“The level of integration will make the items in the game more valuable, and I don’t expect much setback.
“I think that $ 100 or so is meaningful, and don’t expect us to ever see a $ 500 match.”
If history repeats itself, GTA Online will be the money maker.
The persistent online world offers endless monetization opportunities – with gamers seduced to splash new vehicles, weapons, properties, businesses and cosmetic upgrades.
Pachter said GTA VI’s integration with its online offering offers an ‘excuse’ for fiancé players to spend more money.
He added: “Some players will spend an extra $ 500, and most will not, but those who spend more than $ 100 will do it if they see that there is value from the purchase.”
The GTA series – created in Dundee, Scotland – is one of the largest franchises in the industry.
GTA V has become the fastest entertainment product in history to earn $ 1 billion (in its first three days) and has since sold more than 210 million copies worldwide.
Developer Rockstar North (formerly DMA Design) based in EdinburghHad extra success by working with the fellow studio Rockstar San Diego to the Red Dead Redemption Games.

When GTA V made his debut, it launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It was two consoles ago, with the new game that would arrive via PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
AAA (Triple-A) games-big budget, high-profile productions-now take longer to do as gamers seamless multi-player experiences, Cross Device Asks game abilities, visually impressive graphics and fully exciting storylines.
From the GTA VI trailer footage, players will return to the Miami flavored metropolis of Vice City in the fictional state of Leonida.
The Bonnie and Clyde style story will include the first playable female character in the history of the series.
GTA has always had fun about American culture, with the country’s last decade of politics like something out of the game.
It seems that GTA VI will surely continue the tradition of satire of the series, but the trailer also shows that no costs have been saved to bring the sun wide streets of Vice City to life.
The cost of creating a game may differ greatly based on a multitude of factors, including the studio size, staffing skills level and developmental time.
Given the size of the workforce of Rockstar and the number of years the game was in development, Mr. Pachter believes that the cost of GTA VI will be “nearly $ 1 billion”.
Mr. Pachter said: “They have spent so much time because they can, and the scope of the game is typically tremendous.”
Rockstar has remained tight over his budget so far and whether GTA VI is indeed the most expensive video game ever made.
After Covid is all wiped out to see a film on the silver cloth, film studios should now face the cost of living crisis and audiences who prefer to wait for digital releases instead of spending money in the cinema.
For those who are concerned about a starting point of $ 100 for GTA VI, or if it becomes the new standard for video games, Mr. Pachter on to make it wait the same way.
He said: ‘Like theatrical releases, game prices fall over time.
“Rockstar can charge $ 100 for six months, could drop to $ 70 for six months and then drop periodically afterwards.
“No one has to afford $ 100; They all know they can wait. ‘
Even if GTA VI fans are waiting for a cheaper price, or that it could possibly fall via Xbox Games Pass, Mr. Pachter confident that it will not affect Rockstar’s overall success.
He said: “There is no doubt that they will eventually sell 100 million copies – or more.”
So, although there is little doubt that all eyes will be on the introduction of GTA VI, the lasting question is whether other studios will try to follow it if we do see a price increase.
But a word for the wise, there are few games with a legacy as formidable as GTA, and any price increase can be the exception rather than the rule.
As a career criminal and former bank robber Trevor Philips (GTA V character) put it nicely: “I said something nice, not expensive.”
