Eddie courts are determined to bring more silverware to Newcastle as he continues to celebrate the club’s first domestic trophy in 70 years.
Courts, his players and staff were praised by an estimated crowd of 300,000 when they paraded the Carabao Cup on Saturday, with Tyneside stopping to celebrate the end of the painful drought of the Magpies.
But less than two weeks later of the 2-1 victory over Liverpool on Wembley, who was greeted at home with such a joy, the 47-year-old head coach has already thought ahead.
He said: “We are hungry for more, but without ahead of ourselves in a sense that we now have ten major Premier League matches to return and try to focus on it.
“The taste of success definitely leaves you hungry for more days like this.”
They came into their thousands to celebrate a first trophy of any description since 1969, with early arrivals carrying the route to the Town Moor – after which the roofs of bus shelters were removed to prevent people from taking risky seats – hours before an open bus parade would leave.
As it did, courts were greeted by a large banner of itself over the facade of the Sandman Signature Hotel near the stadium.
Courts said with the Geordie TV famous Ant and Dec, who were on one of the two buses with the Newcastle party, said: “I was actually very emotional.”
About 150,000 tickets were issued for an event on the Town Moor, with fans treated on a full final on a series of big screens before the parade left, and as the march approached its destination, the exciting levels rose despite the dumping of the temperature and blushing wind.
Newcastle’s leading scorer Alan Shearer summed up the mood in an interview on stage and told an ecstatic crowd: ‘We can get used to this, can’t we?
“I said I’m going to have a heavier than anyone party. I think I did. I don’t know where I am, what time it is, what day it is.
‘The past two weeks have probably been the best of my life, and Sunday at Wembley, is what we all wanted and what we all waited for so long. It was bloody surprisingly. ‘
One day when the slogan fueled by the noisy support at Wembley – ‘We don’t do quiet’ – again, courts and his players had the stage on stage to lift the trophy again to the same reaction they received almost two weeks earlier in North London.
Skipper Bruno Guimaraes led those present in a series of songs, showing on more than one occasion that his improvement is now enlarging English to explosions, to the horror of hosts Ant and December.
When darkness fell, a spectacular drone show put an end to an event that everyone who saw it would hope they didn’t have to wait another 70 years for a repetition.
