According to the Geological Survey of the United States, an earthquake of 5.2 northeast of San Diego took place.
The earthquake occurred just after 10am on Monday morning, with an epicenter about four kilometers south of Julian, Californina – a small town known for its bakeries and apple pies.
Light accessories and shelves rattle in San Diego, but tremors were also felt as far north as Los Angeles.
Warnings received by residents in surrounding areas have advised to “drop, cover, keep and protect yourself.” However, the Sheriff’s Department of San Diego County said it had no immediate reports about damage or injuries.
Riley Ozuna, owner of the Julian Cafe & Bakery, said some cups fall to the ground on her business. “But everything is in order,” she said The Associated Press.
California governor Gavin Newsom was informed of the earthquake, his office said in a statement on social media.
“The state coordinates with the local authorities to determine any damage and if emergency response is needed,” the statement added.
