Alberta is seeking a new Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) after Dr. Mark Joffe’s contract ended on Monday.
Albert Health said in an emailed statement that it hopes to name the temporary CMOH “Infinite.”
“At the same time, we will continue to rely on the advice of many public health experts and officials in Alberta Health, as well as regional medical officials in Alberta Health Services,” it wrote.

“We want to assure Alberta that public health remains a top priority during this transition period. The Alberta government will continue to work closely with health partners to ensure continuity of public health leadership and response.”
The statement cites Jofi’s dedication and professionalism while providing public health expertise “in times of major challenges and transition.”
Health Minister Adriana Lagrange refused to stop and talk to journalists in the Legislature.
Joffe succeeded him in November 2022 for Dr. Deena Hinshaw, who led the province to conduct most of the co-certifications and was subsequently fired by the UCP government, and then Smith said: “I will develop a new team of public health consultants.”
At the time of appointment, he worked with former Capital Health and Alberta Health Services for over 25 years.
Opposition health critic Sarah Hoffman told reporters inside the Legislature on Tuesday that Xinshau’s experience may make it difficult for the province to find a replacement for Joffe easily.
