Caroline County is the kind of quiet place that has found his voice to prefer Donald Trump.
It is rural and republican area, a 90 minute ride from Washington DC, and it supported Trump during the election.
The measurement of political opinion is not necessarily easy here; Division runs raw in the small town of America.
As one cafe owner told me, I interviewed: “My business is worth more than my opinion.”
Did we find any buyer’s remorse among Trump voters? In a word, no.
It will undoubtedly exist, and there is enough anecdotal evidence that voters have second thoughts.
In Bowling Green, Caroline County, our straw survey – unscientific – found that Signalgate shook a Trump support but did not stir.
“I’m impressed with the agenda,” said Robert Hayman, who voted for Trump.
In Signalgate, he said: “In my opinion, it is a non-story, compared to the concern of the previous administration.
“(This is not a big story) to the extent that it has the effect on our safety.”

Patty Roberts, who also voted for Trump, said the Signalgate episode had passed her.
She told me, “I don’t know much about it. I will probably refrain from talking about it. I don’t watch TV.”
How politics ends up with people here depends on who they support and where they get their information.

The reaction of the Trump administration was to deny, dispute and bend the idea of incompetence around the Signal Chat story.
Non-Trump supporters were damning in their assessment of the Signalgate episode.
Iris Silver told me, “It just shows you where the wrong people put in power positions is not a good idea.”
Jeremiah Hirsch, also anti-Trump, told me how the politics of the day weighed the community.
He said, “We need this thing we all deserve, it’s part of the American dream. I feel in some ways we lost it.”

For some, Signalgate is a stone -cold scandal, for others not as much.
Caroline County is known as the cradle of horse racing.
The runners and riders are currently out of season, unlike politics.
In that race it is a marathon and a sprint.
