A senior Democrat took to the Senate floor to speak against US President Donald Trump-with the 17-hour speech still underway.
Cory Booker, a New Jersey senator, started talking about 7pm (midnight in the United Kingdom) and said he intended to disrupt the “normal business of the US Senate as long as I was physically”.
With reference to Mr Trump’s Presidency, he said, “I stand up tonight because I sincerely believe that our country is in crisis.”
From 17:00 in the United Kingdom, Mr. Booker is still talking, after talking for more than 17 hours. He remained the entire expensive because he would lose control of the floor if he left his desk or sat down.

Other Democrat Senators joined Mr. Booker joined to ask questions so that he could rest his voice, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
At the beginning of his speech, Mr. Booker said: “These are not normal times in our country. And they should not be treated in the US Senate as such.
“The threats to the American people and American democracy are serious and urgent, and we all have to do more to stand against them.”
Overnight he refers to Strom Thurmond of South Carolina, who filtered for 24 hours and 18 minutes against the 1957 Civil Rights Act.

“You think we got civil rights one day, because Strom Thurmond – after you filtered for 24 hours – do you think we got civil rights because he got to the floor one day and said ‘I saw the light,'” he said.
“No, we got civil rights because people marched for it, sweating for it and [civil rights leader] John Lewis was bleeding for that. ‘
Only Mr. Thurmond and Republican Senator Ted Cruz – who spoke for 21 hours and 19 minutes against the Affordable Care Act in 2013 – kept the Senate floor longer than Mr Booker.
