Former Brazilian footballer Dani Alves had a conviction for rape against him.
The Supreme Court in the Catalonia region in Spain said it overturned the original ruling in Alves’ case, saying that it offered “contradictions and contradictions”.
The former Barcelona player was convicted of sexual assault in February Last year and was sentenced to four years and six months imprisonment. He denied crimes during the three -day trial.
It was decided that Alves raped the victim in a bathroom Barcelona Nightclub early on New Year’s Eve in 2022.
The Catalonia High Court on Friday ruled that there was “insufficient evidence” to exclude the suspicion of innocence of Alves.
In the judges’ judgment, they wrote that the testimony of the victim “particularly differed” of evidence of video material taken before the woman and that Alves entered the bathroom where she said he forced her to have sex without her consent.
In March last year, Alves paid € 1 million (then £ 930,000) in bail released from the prison while convicting the rape.
Former Barcelona footballer paid the amount and handed his Brazilian and Spanish passports after prosecutors argued that he was a flight risk.
Alves, now 41, were previously jailed from January 2023 to March 2024.
He can now leave the country when the Court of Appeal lifted all travel restrictions.

The ruling can still be appealed before the Supreme Court in Spain.
The Alves trial has been the first high-profile case since Spain revised its laws in 2022 to give permission that is central to defining a sex crime in response to an increase in protests following a gang rape during the San Fermin Bulling Festival in Pamplona in 2016.
The legislation commonly known as the law “Only Yes means Yes”, defines consent as an explicit expression of a person’s will, making it clear that silence or passivity is not equal to consent.
