Dangerous offender residing in Toronto while on statutory release, police say


A person believed to be a dangerous offender currently lives in Toronto and has been released due to legal release.

Simon Gares was initially convicted of personal injury caused by the attack and was considered a dangerous criminal.

He is subject to a long-term supervision order and a lifelong weapon ban. He was convicted for violating the 2024 long-term supervision order and has been in jail until now.

As of March 14, he lives in a residential facility in a community and will be under a number of conditions, including being unable to access alcohol, not eating alcohol, and not taking drugs.

The treatment plan arranged by the parole supervisor must also be followed.

Toronto police are notifying the public about the grave because his “risk to the community, including children.”

If he reasonably believes that the individual is at risk of substantial harm to other persons or property, the police or his designated chief may disclose personal information.
