Essex said in a press release that the roundabout sets “high standards of craftsmanship, aesthetics and innovation while meeting all specifications and tight building deadlines.”

The county said James Smith, technical program and research manager at Good Roads, congratulated the roundabout building in a letter to “set a high level for all of us and let all of us follow.”

The two-lane concrete roundabout is part of the second phase of Tecumseh County Road, County Road, which also includes the reorganization from County 42 to County Road 43, County Road, on the border with Windsor.

“Because of its persistence in the Essex climate, concrete was chosen as the roundabout material, characterized by temperature fluctuations, freezing and melting in winter,” the county said.

Essex and the Contractor Green Infrastructure Partners were selected from record applicants, and the award recognized successful municipal private sector collaboration in Ontario’s concrete road construction. Eligible projects involve the construction or maintenance of paving, bridges, culverts, unification, sidewalks or curbs.

Allan Botham, director of the county’s infrastructure program, said the county’s roundabout officially opened in October and the roundabout was completed ahead of schedule.

“This roundabout opening will smooth the flow of commuter and commercial transportation and is part of a multi-year, multi-year project to accommodate increased transportation associated with generation investments such as new battery plants and regional hospitals,” Essex County Warden Hilden MacDonald said during the official opening.

Good Roads was founded in 1894 and is a good road association in Ontario and a municipal association related to road quality and design.
