In a game full of Connor’s differential maker, the one that proves to be hero is Winnipeg’s Kyle Connor.
The Jets’ leading scorer finished second in second-place overtime this season, with Winnipeg winning the Edmonton team 4-3 on Thursday night, which lost Leon Draisaitl for the first time throughout the season and also lost Connor McDavid late in the second phase.
Brandon Tanev’s first goal since the trade deadline trade put the Jets in a single goal early in the final frame. The Oilers tied it together in the last six minutes of the regulations, but the Jets won two points in overtime to end the Oilers’ three-game winning streak.
The Jets beat 24-20 and could only shoot five shots in the first stage low racing.
“It’s a little sloppy,” said Jets head coach Scott Arniel. “I think both teams flipped the puck over, but in the end, at the end of the last game of the road trip, we did what we had to do. We got the lead. I really wanted to see us locked in that, but it was obviously a big goal in overtime.”
Cole Perfetti and Josh Morrissey also scored for Winnipeg in the win.
Victory reached 100 points for the third time in team history. They did this in Game 70, the fastest they have achieved after 2017-2018 and 2023-2024.
The Jets scored 4-4 in the power game and lost with a 5-3 chance. Winnipeg has been 0-for-9 in the last four games with a man’s advantage, an area of concern.
“I thought we had a few looks, but overall, we were sloppy,” Connor said. “It’s something we’re proud of being able to end the game. We got a 5-on-3 game – don’t score on that. We got a real late – don’t score on that. Yes, I know the result isn’t everything, you want to get motivation, but at this certain time, it’s a timely goal.
“Like our team game, we have to continue to be aggressive and not satisfy and hope to improve.”

The victory combined with the Dallas Stars’ gun battle loss gives the Jets a 10-point lead.
Just five minutes after opening hours, the Oiler first entered the board of directors. After a turnover in the neutral zone, Jeff Skinner collected the puck, slid into the Jets zone, and defeated Connor Hellebuyck on his right shoulder with a hard tangle right shoulder.
Winnipeg attracted the level with a 13:39 run, while Perfetti buried the juicy rebound from Stuart Skinner’s mat.
Both teams scored a lot of nets in the 20 minutes of the start of Winnipeg’s 5-4 victory over the Oilers.
Edmonton regained the lead in the 5:30 mark in the second place. McDavid slid into the Winnipeg area, poured the puck behind the net, and sent the pass. His target was Skinner, but Nikolaj Ehlers put a stick on the puck and slowly slid onto the crease and Hellebuyck’s legs.
The Jets challenged the target, and he believed Hellebuyck was disturbed during the game, but officials disagreed, maintaining the phone and assessing the Jets’ fine for the challenge error.
Winnipeg killed the fine, helping to establish the kidnapping goal just 11 seconds after Nino Niederreiter exited out of the box.
Mason Appleton performed well on the Jets’ blue line, opening the ice, knocking out the Darnell nurse down the puck and allowing Morgan Barron to send it across the neutral zone to Niederreiter. He slides it into the end of Edmonton and then hits a tough Morrissey who takes the puck away from Skinner’s level.
McDavid’s last shift happened later on the second time, when he collided with Morrissey and looked like he liked his groin. The Oilers took him to the third stage, with their so-called low-body injury.
Edmonton beat Winnipeg 9-7 in the middle frame, but the Oilers were fined in the second end and in the third inning they took another free throw to put the Jets at 5-on-3 in the last 3 minutes, but Winnipeg did nothing about it.
But where the big shot failed in the power game, the fourth line stood out, and the Jets led the first night shortly after the Oilers returned to their strength.
After a series of activities around the Oiler’s net, redirecting Haydn’s fleury point online, causing more chaos in front of Skinner. Tanev eventually found the loose puck and knocked it off the post before throwing his own mistake into his first goal as he was traded to Winnipeg before the deadline.
This is Tanev’s first goal as an airplane since his third game in the first round of 2019 to St. Louis.
Before Edmonton, the game was 3-2 before Edmonton, and was able to get things back to normal with 5:34, even without their two best players.
The show begins with a lapse in Winnipeg ending, and Luke Schenn stands out in the pass to Dylan Samberg. The puck fell on the nurse’s stick and on his way to Hellebuyck, his shot scored for the rebound that caused Zach Hyman to deposit in the open net to tie the game.
Shortly after, 4:57 left, the Jets lost Vladislav Namestnikov due to injury. When he and Jeff Skinner accidentally skated each other, Skinner’s arms accidentally touched Namestnikov’s chin, knocking him to him for a while before heading to the locker room. He did return to the bench before the night passed, but did not make another turn.
It was on that whistle that Edmonton had to make the goalkeeper change as Stuart Skinner got hit a few minutes ago and took some time to get up, after the first media timed out after the collision, heading to the locker room. Calvin Pickard replaced the game.
With 2:30 left in the third quarter, Ehlers were fascinated by Corey Perry, which gave the Jets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to grab the game but failed to play hard, sending the game to overtime.
After Edmonton took the puck at the end of Winnipeg, Morrissey went into the extra frame after he took the puck off the ice. He entered the Edmonton area and threw the puck to Mark Scheifele, who left it to Connor before the sniper finished the game through Pickard.
The goal was Connor’s 37th team this season and his 12th professional regular season overtime goal.
Hellebuyck made 20 saves to win, while Pickard was bound by the loss and made three saves in just six minutes of action.
Winnipeg returns to action on the ice against Buffalo on Sunday afternoon. The competition begins at 2pm and is reported at 680 CJOB from noon.
