Rome and London – The papal conclave for replacing Pope Francis will begin on Wednesday, May 7, the Vatican said on Monday.

The cardinals will gather in the Vatican to begin the process of choosing a new pope, which will become the 267th leader of the Catholic Church.

Francis, who died last Monday at the age of 88, was buried on Saturday at the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome.

The Cardinals, who will choose the new pope, will meet in the Vatican Sistine Chapel, which has closed to the public since Monday, according to a notice published on the Vatican Museum’s website.
