British comedian Jimmy Carr is returning to New Zealand in 2026 and is starting his tour in Wintergill.
The last time Carr was in New Zealand, he mocked New Plymouth and described the residents of Central Hawke Bay as “consanguine.”
But the site and event manager of the City of Walcargill City Councils and Events is not concerned with Carr’s humor mark, disturbing residents in the south.
“No need to say. This is his comedy and I think people would expect it anyway. I think it was designed to create a reaction, and often does.”
This will not be Carr’s first visit to Wancargill, and the last time he was warmly received by the local inhabitants.
“The last time he was in Wancargill a few years ago, he was running out, so we expect the same thing.
“He will be in the fabulous civic theater down here. We’re really looking forward to it.”
Wade believes that Wancargill is above its weight in terms of international acts visiting the city and, in difficult times, having a good laugh can be great for the community.
“It will be great for local accommodation and hospitality and everything that continues.
“But also, it’s great for the community, especially when things are a little depressed. Laughing is always good to improve this well-being element.”
