Canadian Olympian Charmaine Reid visited Windsor this week to encourage local students to stay active, set goals and pursue their dreams.
Reid has been traveling around the world for the past nine years, a motivating and engaging target fitness program for children named S’Cool Mission.
“If you practice, whether it’s reading, math or hockey, you’ll get better,” Reed told the Star. “I’m trying to tell students that it’s not just about badminton.

“This is the best thing to challenge yourself.”

Reid stopped Monday at Eastview Horizon and Edward Privual Schools to get students to attend badminton demonstrations. The students also had the opportunity to witness the Olympic athlete’s action as she participated in a spirited four-on-one match.
“When I need volunteers, all my hands are raised, which is amazing because sometimes the students are scared and don’t want to try different things, but their hands are raised.
“The kids really like it.”
The schools also received new badminton equipment from Canadian tires quickly.

The Fort Erie native has been playing competitive badminton at the highest level in his career, playing in the Olympics, World Championships, Federal Games and Pan American competitions.
She won gold and four silver medals.

“If you have a goal or a dream, try to achieve it,” Reed said. “It can change, but believe in yourself and be the best. When I first went to the national team, I was the worst player, but they gave me the chance because I had the potential. I always gave it 100%.”
