A maintenance worker accused of murdering Gangland’s lawyer, Joseph Acquaro, will no longer face criminal charges.
Vincenzo Crupi was accused of murder after Mr. Acquaro was shot dead in front of his East Brunswick ice cream shop in March 2016.
But prosecutor Jeremy McWilliams informed the Victorian Supreme Court on Monday that the case against Crupi had been discontinued.
Judge Jane Dixon confirmed that Crupi no longer faced a murder position and was not in custody in any other matter.
Crupi hugged his lawyers after the audience concluded, but declined to comment.
He was first accused of Mr. Acquaro’s murder in 2018 and promised to be tried the following year.
But the case was repeatedly delayed due to a legal fight for confidential material.
