Prime Minister Mark Carney has requested a review of Canada’s plans to buy the F-35 fighter fleet.
The deal with Lockheed Martin and the U.S. government is 88 aircraft, each costing about $85 million.
A spokesman for Defense Secretary Bill Blair said Carney asked Blair to study whether the F-35 contract is the best investment in Canada or whether there is a better option.

Blair’s press secretary Laurent de Casanove said that in view of “environmental changes”, the government needs to do homework.
Dekasanov said the contract has not been cancelled and Canada legally promised to buy the first 16 aircraft.
Carney’s threat with U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday became a trade war in Canada.
