Ten major car manufacturers and two trading bodies have to pay a total of nearly £ 78m fines for breach of competition law, a British regulator announced.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said they agreed illegally not to compete against each other when advertising what percentage of their cars could be recycled.
They also put together to prevent third parties from paying to regain their customers’ scrap cars, the watchdog said.

It explained that those involved were BMW, Ford, Jaguar Land Rover, Peugeot Citroen, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Renault, Toyota, Vauxhall and Volkswagen.
Mercedes-Benz, was also involved in the agreements, the CMA said, but it escaped a financial fine because the German company warned it to its participation.
