Halifax – The association representing Canadian university academic staff warns its members of unnecessary travel to the United States.
The Canadian Association of University Teachers said the latest travel advice was released today due to the “political landscape” created by the Trump administration and reports that some Canadians have had difficulties crossing the border.
The association said scholars from countries with tensions in diplomatic relations with the United States, or who themselves expressed negative views of the Trump administration, should try to travel to the United States with particular caution.
It said the warning also applies particularly to people who can be seen as “the research that conflicts with the current U.S. government’s position” or to see it as transgender.
In addition, the association said scholars should carefully consider what information they have on electronic devices or what they need to have when crossing the border and take action to protect sensitive information.
Foreigners, including Canadian Mooney, have been sent to detention or processing centres for more than seven days since Trump came to power, including Canadian Mooney, and a pair of backpackers from Wales, as well as a pair of backpackers from Wales.
