Easter rest is inclined to be even more busy than usual this year, and airlines increase their operations to prepare for hundreds of thousands of Australians who take the skies.
Between long weekends of Easter Day and Anzac, it is expected that almost two million passengers travel through the national and international networks of Qantas and Jetstar.
More than 840,000 are reserved to travel only for the long Easter weekend.
On Thursday and Easter Monday will be the most active days of the long Easter weekend, followed by the Sunday following Anzac’s day.
“Since this year’s long Easter weekend is expected to be one of the busiest in recent years, our teams have worked hard to be ready for the hundreds of thousands of customers who will fly with us,” said the National Executive of Qantas, Markus Svensson.
“Our operations are in a solid position that reaches the April holidays, with more than 80 percent of our national flights that leave each month and international flights also work well.”
Jetstar’s executive director Stephanie Tully said it was the biggest travel period for the airline.
“After significant growth in our low rates network, this will be Jetstar’s largest Easter peak, since we take more than 400,000 customers during the Easter weekend of five days,” he said.
To accommodate the additional load, the additional pilots and crew have been included during the occupied period, and six spare aircraft will be ready.
Those who make a national trip during the long weekend have urged to arrive at least one or two hours before their flight, and international travelers are encouraged to arrive three to four hours before their flight leaves.
Verifying online can also save time at the airport, said the airline.
Travelers have been warned that they stay within their luggage limits and verify travel requirements before going to the airport to avoid delays.
It is expected to be so busy in the ditch, with more than 65,000 Australians that they hope to board the flights of Air New Zealand in the long weekend, an increase of 35 percent from the same time last year.
Almost two thirds of Australian travelers will land in Auckland, and most leave Sydney or Melbourne.
