The Trump administration is planning to stop more than half a billion dollars to contracts and grants at Brown University, which contributed a list of Ivy League colleges that threatened their federal money as a result of their anti -Semitism, a White House official said.
Nearly $ 510 million on federal contracts and grants are on track, said the official, who is not authorized to talk about the plan in public and spoke on condition of anonymity.
In ‘NE -mail on Thursday to campus leaders, Brown Provost Frank Doyle said the university is aware of “disturbing rumors” about the government’s actions on its research money. “Right now, we have no information to substantiate any of these rumors,” Doyle said.
It comes two days after President Donald Trump’s research awards stopped at Princeton University. Dozens of universities face federal investigations into anti-Semitism after a wave of pro-Palestinian protests last year, but the administration drew special attention to Elite colleges.
The University of Columbia was the first one to be targeted, and lost $ 400 million to federal money with threats to end more if it does not make the campus safer for Jewish students. Last month, the school agreed to various government demands, including a review of the student disciplinary rules and an overview of the school’s Department of Studies in the Middle East.
Trump’s administration promised a more aggressive approach against the anti -Semitism of the campus, accusing former President Joe Biden of rejecting schools. It opened new investigations at colleges and detained and deported several foreign students with pro-Palestinian protests.
