A British woman is missing in Thailand after a submarine she caught fire, officials said.
The vessel was on the coast of the island of Koh Tao when a fire broke out in the engine room on Sunday, according to a Facebook post from the Surat Thani office for public relations.
The boat allegedly carried 22 people: 16 tourists, two crew members, two dive instructors and two assistant diving instructors.
Alexandra Clarke, a British citizen, has been named the one passenger aboard Davy Jones Locke still missing.
“The authorities therefore arranged a search team for the missing person,” the social media post states.
“After receiving the report (from the fire), the Surat Thani provincial marine office coordinated with private boats and volunteers to help evacuate tourists and crew quickly to another boat.”
The British Foreign Office said in a statement: “We support the family of a British woman missing in Thailand and in contact with local authorities.”
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
