A security guard that was stabbed when a man who pushes a knife unleashed an attack in Westfield Bondi Junction A year ago he still lives with trauma of the event.
Muhammad Taha was working with his colleague and friend Feraz Tahir when they were attacked by Joel Cauchi, 40, who stabbed six people and wounded 10 more on April 13, 2024.
The 30 -year -old said that his physical and mental wounds have not yet been cured before the first anniversary of the attack.
“Still having some physical pain and mental trauma is very large,” he said.
Tahir died while Taha was stabbed three times trying to save him.
“When I wake up in the hospital bed after two days and I know that my feraz tahir colleague is no longer the worst part,” he said.
Taha was granted permanent residence by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for his heroic acts, which he calls “a great honor.”
“I try to help the people in my country that I call home now, so it is a great honor for me to be part of this community,” he said.
But he cannot return to Westfield Bondi’s reed, on the other hand, he mostly stays at home.
“I still can’t get to that place,” Taha said.
Tahir’s brothers, Sheraz and Muzafar said they still fight too.
“I don’t think it disappears, we can hide it, but you know it is in our hearts,” said Muzafar.
“His courage … He was very brave for childhood … and in the end he was brave,” Sheraz said.
Sheraz said he has started a job in security to follow in the footsteps of his late brother.
Some of the survivors will choose to return to Westfield Bondi Junction tomorrow to join NSW First Chris Minns and other officials to put flowers in a special tribute in the first anniversary of the attack.
