Jeff Bezos’ blue origins came from launching her fiancee Lauren Sanchez on Monday along with an all-female celebrity crew including Katy Perry and Gayle King.
This is the latest wave of space tourism, here, a richer and famous wave than ever before – or lucky and good connection – traditionally dominated by professional astronauts.
The new Shepard rocket exploded during a quick up and down trip from West Texas. The edge of the space greets about 65 miles (105 km), promising a few minutes of weightless minutes.
Sanchez, a helicopter pilot and former TV reporter, invites others to the 10-minute, fully automatic flight and pairs Star Power with singer-songwriter Perry and “CBS Mornings” co-host King.
Filmmaker Kerianne Flynn also shared the trip; Aisha Bowe, a former NASA engineer who set up his own company to promote science education; and scientist Amanda Nguyen, who learns about planets around other stars, now advocates for survivors of sexual violence.
Blue Origin declined to say how much the plane costs or who paid for it. The trip came two months before Sanchez and Bezos got married in Venice.
This is the 11th Human Space Company at Washington State University, which was founded in 2000 by Bezos after its huge property with Amazon. Bezos is tied to the first space tour flight of Blue Oright in 2021 and is arriving with the latest crew.
Celebrity Release is the first space flight in the United States that women fill in every seat. In 1963, the only other all-female staff member of the Human Space Flight in 64. At that time, Soviet astronaut Valentina Tereshkova was launched by herself and became the first woman in space. Tereshkova stayed for three days.
Even after the latest release, women accounted for only 15% of more than 700 people entering space. Sanchez said she deliberately chose the women who launched with her, each of whom was eager to inspire dreams of young and older people, and even commissioned special flight lawsuits.
“This is a big moment for commercial space travel, a whole human being and the women around us,” Perry told the Associated Press last week.
The launch brings VIPs to West Texas, including Oprah Winfrey, Kris Jenner and other members of the Kardashian family, as well as several women who previously flew on private flights. King’s close friend Winfrey wiped his tears as the capsule arrived in space, hearing passengers marvel at the moon and shouting happily.
When women lost weight for a few minutes, the women were bent, Perry said in an interview after posting TV that Perry sang several lines of “What a wonderful world.”
Bezos opened the hatchery for the capsule a few minutes after the touchdown and hugged the first Sanchez. When they showed up, Perry and the King knelt down and kissed the ground. “Oh my goodness, that’s amazing,” said King, who thought he was an anxious plane flyer.
This is not the first blue origin of the blue name.
“Star Trek” actor William Shatner grabbed the lift of Blue Origin in 2021 shortly after Bezos’ inauguration trip. Followed by the former New York Giants defense, TV hosts Michael Strahan and Laura Shepard Churchley are the eldest daughters of Mercury astronaut Alan Shepard, named by the Rockets. Two aviation pioneers missed space when they were young – Wally Funk and Ed Dwight, emitting at 82 and 90, respectively.
Most of the passengers at Blue Origin (58 latest conferences for computing) are business or science types, TV hosts or YouTubers. Ticket prices are not disclosed.
The Russian Space Agency also started with the California financier in 2001. Twenty years later, a Russian actress filmed the International Space Station.
Elon Musk’s SpaceX also sold multiple days of travel to private clients. SpaceX’s first flight client, billionaire tech entrepreneur Jared Isaacman, has launched twice and performed the first private space walk. If confirmed by the Senate, he will now become NASA’s next administrator.
China-born Bitcoin investor Chun Wang has just returned from his first space flight to bring people to the Arctic and Antarctic. Wang picked up the entire SpaceX tag for himself and got the sum of three Polar Explorers.
“In this exciting new era of commercial space flight, the dream of becoming an astronaut is no longer limited to a few,” Wang said on X last week.
