TORONTO – Right-handed pitcher Max Scherzer was placed on the 15-day injury list by the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday.
Scherzer will see a hand expert on Monday and will miss at least one start. He was scheduled to sell again on Friday.
The move comes less than 24 hours after a future Hall of Famer lost 9-5 to the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday, saying it was a compensatory injury caused by a inflammation of the thumb.
Scherzer lasted only three innings, threw 45 balls and ran two runs with three-point shooting percentage without walking.

“He felt better than he thought today, which led us to believe we might be doing the right thing for him for a long time (Saturday).”

“He’s frustrated. He wants to pitch. Hope this resets him. We need him to be an elite pitcher and we want him to find the best process for him to stand out on the mound.”
The 40-year-old veteran signed a one-year, $15.5 million contract with Toronto on February 4.
Scherzer has been eight All-Star Games and won the Cy Young Award, becoming the best pitcher in the third league. He has a 216-112 record in his 17-year career, with an average score of 3,16 and a strikeout of 3,408.
Left-handed pitcher Easton Lucas recalled the corresponding move from the Triple-A branch of Blue Jays in Buffalo, NY. He can play in Sunday’s series against the Orioles.
Schneider said Lucas and Yariel Rodriguez were the choices to fill Scherzer seats on Friday.
“(Lucas) will be active today, maybe it’s him,” Schneider said. “At this point, Yariel may slide back to spin.
“We want to see the location (Sunday) and after the next few games and go from there.”
Lucas scored 11.57 ERA in two games in Toronto last season and scored 1-0 with 9.82 ERA in Oakland Track and Field, Detroit Tigers and Blue Jays.
