The family of an 80-year-old man told of their “disgust” with the children who “humiliated” and killed him after a 13-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy were convicted of homicide.
Bhim Kohli was found on the ground on September 1 last year in Franklin Park in Braunstone, near Leicester, and died of a spinal cord injury the next night.
The grandfather, who was attacked just meters from his home when he walked his dog, sustained a broken neck and rib fractures in accordance with ‘something that hit the rib cage’, the hearing heard.

The boy, who was 14 at the time of the attack, and the girl, who was 12, were convicted at Leicester Crown Court on Tuesday. They cannot be named because of their ages.
The youth, who were sitting in the dock for the first time since their trial, looked upset when the verdict was delivered.
Kohli’s daughter Susan, who spoke outside the court, said that her father was “brutally and cruelly taken away from us when she walked our dog Rocky in the park near our house”.
She said that Mr. Kohli for 55 years was a ‘dedicated partner to my mother’, as well as a ‘loving father, grandchild, brother and uncle, a retired businessman and a close friend of many people, including people who lived in our local community’.
“Every time my mother opens the front door, she thinks about what happened to her husband,” said Ms Kohli.
“If we listen to the extent of what happened to which Dad was subjected, we will never leave.
“We feel angry and disgust at the teenagers who have taken away from us. They humiliated him, an 80-year-old man, assaulted, filmed and laughed at him.
“Dad didn’t deserve it and didn’t want it on anyone else.”

In a statement released by police, Ms Kohli said the boy who killed her father “used violence so seriously that he broke three of Dad’s ribs and neck, causing his backbone column trauma”.
“Videos of the incident were filmed on the girl’s phone and found shocking,” she added.
“Dad didn’t deserve it, and we didn’t want this pain on anyone else.
“One of the videos showed that Dad was hit on his knees with the boy’s move (shoe).” A loud banging noise is heard when the boy hit father.
“It’s completely disgusting to hear the girl laugh at this assault on Dad. This sound plays over and over in our heads. ‘
‘Cruel, violent and deep shocking’
Ms Kohli said the footage captured her father’s attempt to call help when he screamed at his grandson, adding: ‘We didn’t hear his call for help and it upset us deeply.
‘Losing Dad in these cruel, violent and deep shocking circumstances feels like our hearts have been drawn apart. We cannot put the pain we feel every day, and it has increased during the trial.
“Rocky, our dog, returned home alone that day and was lost without father. He had with my father for 15 years and it is clear that he misses him deeply. ‘

During a six -week trial, jurors heard that Mr. Kohli was abused before the incident.
The girl also had a photo of Mr. Taken Kohli in Franklin Park, the court heard.
During the attack he was moved to the ground and clapped in the face with a shoe by a boy wearing a balaclava, the hearing heard.
A police report on the incident contains a statement from a witness who described that the boy had forcibly pushed the old man on his back.
The witness has Mr. Kohli described as ‘on the floor screaming’, the jury heard.
The boy, who denies that he had inflicted the fatal injuries, told a friend that he would go “on the flight” to Hinckley, in Leicestershire, the day after the attack, but was arrested by police minutes later while he was hiding in a bush, the court said.

In a letter written two months after the attack, the boy said, “I did it and I accept that I do time” and “I just need anger, etc.
The boy told the jury that he walked to Mr. Kohli and wear a balaclava because the girl said the man “carries a knife”, before Mr. Kohli on his knees falls during a “struggling” over the youth’s slide.
The court was shown that a video clip was filmed by the girl of the masked boy who Mr. Kohli in the face slaps with his shoe, which he told the jury that he did from ‘Instinct’.
In his testimony, the male defendant told the court that he was Mr. Kohli transferred to “defending” the girl, which he thought would be beaten or pushed by the elderly man, but he denied that he had ever kicked or beat Mr. Kohli.
The jury heard that he, when the victim was injured in the park, told his daughter that he was called a ‘p ***’ during the attack.
Harpreet Sandhu KC, for the prosecution, said the boy’s actions were “an unforeseen violence against a man who was defenseless”.
The jury deliberated for almost seven hours before reaching unanimous verdict on the boy and girl, who will be sentenced next month.
The boy was also charged with murder, but was not convicted on the score.
Mr. Justice Turner arrested the boy and granted bail to the girl, but told her that his decision “should not be taken as an indication of the sentence when the time comes”.
Detective chief inspector Mark Sinki, of Leicestershire police, said the family of Mr. Kohli was “absolutely ruined by its loss” and lived “without racist incidents in their community for many, many years”.
“It’s extremely unpleasant – any kind of racist motivation, even partially. And tragic that children should have that motivation,” he added.
“It’s a no-win situation and it should never have happened.”
