Albukerke, New Mexico – Federal authorities are investigating an early morning fire on Sunday, which damaged the entrance to the New Mexico Republican Party headquarters in Albukerke.
Agents working with the local authorities have restored indefinite “ignition materials” at the scene, said the alcohol bureau, firearm and explosives the spokesman Cody on Monday. He declined to say what the materials were or to share additional details.
The fire has followed numerous acts of vandalism in recent weeks, directed against Tesla, the electric car company, whose owner Elon Musk is leading the efforts of Republican President Donald Trump to reduce the federal workforce. Several of these cases included Molotov cocktails that were used to start fires in dealers. US Prosecutor General Pam Bondi called it a “wave of internal terrorism.”
Attacks against property, bearing the logo of Elon Musk’s electric car company, are cut in the United States and abroad. Although no injuries were reported, Tesla showrooms, vehicles, charging stations and private cars were directed.
The firefighters responded to the fire shortly before 6am and put it under control within about five minutes, according to Lieutenant Jason Feyer with a fire in Albukerke.
The building was unoccupied and no one was injured. But the flames badly burned the entrance and caused great damage to the smoke throughout the office, where three people work full -time, according to representatives of the Ferger and the Republican Party.
A photo provided by GOP representatives showed the charred entrance of the building with wood and pieces of burned insulation scattered to the ground. A broken and burnt door was placed on one side.
The GOP Office security system is opening the fire, said Republican Party President in New Mexico, Amy Barrel. She credits firefighters with a quick extinguishing of the flames and preventing fire from spreading.
Barrel said that GOP representatives also found a spray paint on the side of the building about 50 feet (15 meters) from the entrance, saying “ice = kkk”. The ATF Cody spokesman declined to comment on graffiti.
FBI agents were also under investigation on the stage, according to Ferger. FBI representatives could not be reached immediately for comment.
