Australians Nicola Olyslagers and Eleanor Patterson top world athletics indoor championships high jump podium



Nicola Olyslagers has claimed a second consecutive female jump gold medal in the Indoor World Championship in Nanjing, surpassing his Australian partner Eleanor Patteron in the countdown.

Both Australians registered a better authorization of 1.97m, with Olyslagers pocoling the gold since Patterson had once lost 1.92 m.

The head of the world record and the current Olympic gold medalist Yaroslava Mahuchikh of Ukraine (1.95m) claimed bronze, also in the countdown.

Olyslagers, 28, is accumulating a large collection of high -level jump medals in Global Meets.

In addition to its two world interior crowns in Glasgow last year and now in Nanjing, silver claimed at the Tokyo and Paris Olympic Games and was third in the 2023 World Championship in Budapest.

Patterson, meanwhile, added a second covered silver that he caught behind Mahuchikh in 2022. The Gold Medalist of the 2014 Commonwealth Games also won gold and silver in the Outdoor Worlds 2022 and 2023 respectively.

Patterson’s attention is now aimed at the Maurie plant meeting in Melbourne on Saturday, and said he hopes that he can decipher the 2 million brand for the first time.

The trio has dominated the female height jump in recent years, with at least two of them on the podium in each important global event from the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021, when Olyslagers (Née McDermott) won Silver and Mahuchikh Bronze.

Nanjing marks the third time in two years that the three have stopped at the stage, with the outdoor worlds of 2023 and the Olympic Games last year.

Olyslagers and Patterson were testing new tests in Nanjing, as Mahuchikh did when he won gold in Paris.

“I think we get the best out of the other,” said Olyslagers about his compatriot.

“And for Australia, this is the best thing that could happen, winning gold and silver and for record medals.

“The Olympic Games were great, inside it is great. We really go to places like a sport.”

With a remaining session later on Sunday, Australia has already won a record of five medals in the 2025 world indoors, improving the previous brand of four brands in Toronto in 1993.

Lachlan Kennedy was second in the 60m men and Jess Hull and Ky Robinson pocketed the bronze in the two 3000m races.
