In a video posted to the Australian News website, Walters explained that he woke up from surgery to news. He said he was “absolutely flooring because Vegemite is still available on Amazon…but CFIA saw that we were the record importer of Vegemite pallets once a year and gave us a check notification and asked to remove all shelves and Vegemite from all shelves.”
Walters said in the video that he suffered from spina bifida, which was a birth defect caused by the conception of lack of folic acid.
He explained: “One of the main factors that Vegemite adds to everyone’s daily diet is the large amount of folic acid, which helps minimize defects in the nerve tubes and minimizes the chances of anyone going through everything I’ve experienced.”
“It’s a huge battle, and I really don’t want to fight for the $8,000 worth of vegetarian food we left behind.” But he said he’s got support from Canadians and Australians.
“We will try to push back, do the right thing, and make sure we can sell bloody vegetarian food.”
