Attorney General Pam Bondi directs prosecutors to seek death penalty for Luigi Mangione

Prosecutor General Pam Bondi directs federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty for Luigi Magione if he was convicted of the December murder by United State CEO Brian Thompson, a statement on Tuesday announced.

One of the federal accusations against Manyone, murder by using a firearm, makes him admissible for the death penalty if convicted.

“The murder of Magyone by Brian Thompson, an invigorated man and father of two young children, was deliberately, a cold-blooded murder that shocked America,” Bondi said in a statement. “After careful consideration, I directed the federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty in this case as we conduct President Trump’s agenda to stop violence and make America again safe.”

Prosecutor General Pam Bondi spoke during the visit of President Donald Trump to the Ministry of Justice to contact his workers in Washington, Colombia County, March 14, 2025.

Magione is accused of shooting Thompson in front of the Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan while the CEO headed to an investor conference on December 4th. He was arrested in Alton, Pennsylvania, five days after the murder.

Federal accusations against Manyone were raised in December during the Biden administration.

Luigi Magione appeared at a hearing for the murder of UHC Executive Director Brian Thompson at the Manhattan Criminal Court on February 21, 2025 in New York.

“As it is alleged, Manyone has planned his attack for months and lurks his victim for days before killing him-methodically planning when, where and how to commit his crime,” said then-General Attuit Merick Garland at the time.

Magione has admitted that he was not guilty of state charges.

He has not entered on a legal basis on federal charges. He is about to return to the federal court on April 18.
