At least 7 killed as devastating storm pounds central US with more flooding, tornado threats

A four -day meteorological event, once in a generation, struck the middle of the United States with destructive tornado and life -threatening floods.

7 deaths reported in 3 states

At least seven people were killed in three states.

One death – a local chief of the fire department – was confirmed in Missouri. 68 -year -old Gary Moore, who was the head of the District Fire protection region, died in the execution of the duty, probably while helping a sedentary motorist, according to a Missouri highway patrol.

Another death was confirmed in Hendrick County, Indiana, just outside Indianapolis. A 27-year-old man was driving when he struck the power lines on the road, after which he came out of his car “and came in contact with live power lines,” the Sheriff’s office of Hendricks reported.

Another five -time victims were confirmed in Tennessee, according to civil servants.

The governor Bill Lee announced the fifth death in the state during a press conference on Thursday night, where he spoke of the “huge devastation” made by a powerful tornado that torn through the small town of Selmer, in the southwestern part of the state, between Memphis and Nashville.

Lee has declared a state of emergency in Tennessee, as well as the Kentucky Andy Government.

“We are confronted with one of the most serious meteorological events we have had a prognosis,” Aleir warned in social media. “Please be alert, take all precautions and be prepared.”

Tornado

Since the outbreak began on Wednesday, there have been at least 42 reported tornado from Arkansas to Ohio. This includes Tornado EF-3 in Selmer, Tennessee, with winds of 160 miles / h and tornado EF-3 in Lake City, Arkansas, with winds of 150 miles / h.

“I have always heard that they sound like a train on the track, but to be honest with you, it was ominously quiet,” he told Abc News. “If you didn’t look, you wouldn’t know that there was a basic tornado, just a field from us.”

On Friday, there is another moderate risk of heavy weather – including tornado damage – from northeast Texas to Little Rock, Arkansas, to Southern Missouri.

On Saturday, the severe threat was referred to as “enhanced” with the potential for strong tornado from Louisiana to Tennessee.

“We are confronted with one of the most serious meteorological events we have had a prognosis,” Aleir warned in social media. “Please be alert, take all precautions and be prepared.”

Flash threat of flooding

As of Wednesday, more than 6 inches have flooded Tennessee and over 4 inches of rain has fallen into Arkansas and Kentucky – and the threat is not over.

A large -scale flood clock extends from Texar, Texas, to Little Rock to Memphis to Nashville to Louisville, Kentucky, to Indianapolis to Columbus, Ohio, to Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Arkansas is in the eye of the bull on Friday, with much of the country being encouraged up to 10 inches of rain.

Another high risk of lightning flood is in force on Saturday from Arkansas to Kentucky.

By the time the storm is over, the total rains can be over 15 inches. Some cities may see a record four -day rain.

Rivers, rivers and other waterways can also go into a major stage of flood from Arkansas to Kentucky.

The system will finally move east on Sunday afternoon, bringing rain southeast on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
