Thai emergency responders say that two people have been found dead and that an unknown number of others are still under the rubble of a building that collapsed after a massive earthquake hit the capital, Bangkok.

A dramatic video circulated on social networks showed the collapse in a cloud of dust, while the spectators shouted and ran.

People were warned in Bangkok evacuated from their buildings that would remain outside in case there were more replicas.

The United States Geological Service and the GFZ Geosciences Center in Germany said the earthquake was 10 kilometers shallow, with an epicenter in Myanmar, according to preliminary reports.

“Suddenly, the entire building began to move. There were immediately shouts and a lot of panic,” said Fraser Morton, a tourist from Scotland, who was in one of Bangkok shopping centers buying camera equipment.

“I started walking calmly at the beginning, but then the building really began to move, yes, many shouts, much panic, people who run along the mechanical stairs, many blows and crashes inside the mall.”

Like Morton, thousands of people arrived at the Benjasiri Park from nearby shopping centers, high up and apartment buildings along the busy Sukhumvit road in Bangkok.

Many were on phones trying to reach their loved ones while others sought shadow of the burning sun of the afternoon. Others looked at the high buildings in the densely full of the city.

“I left and then looked at the building and the whole building moved, dust and rubble, it was quite intense,” said Morton. “A lot of chaos”.

“When I saw the building, my God, it was when … it hit me,” he said.

“There were people crying in the streets and, you know, panic was really horrible.”
