Alberta police regulator is investigating the death of a man who died on Thursday with police officers at his central Edmonton home.
The Edmonton Police Department said officers arrested a 60-year-old man at his apartment near Boyle Street east of downtown, about 103a Avenue and 95 Street. Police said they arrived around 7 p.m. Thursday in response to a call from a man who allegedly had weapons and threatened another resident.

“When officers arrived, they found a 60-year-old man who blocked himself in his apartment unit. Police obtained a search warrant and he was arrested after confronting the man.
Police said they brought in a professional medical team after their arrest. Police did not say why the man was treated by a doctor at the scene. EPS claimed that his condition worsened when the man was treated and he later died in the hospital.
“At the time of on-site treatment of Tactical Emergency Medical Services (TEMS), men suffered medical activities. First aid workers immediately began to manage first aid,” the release said.
“The man was transported to a hospital by EMS, where he was declared dead.”
EPS submitted a 46.1 notice to the Director of Law Enforcement, which directed the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASITT) to conduct an investigation.
When an incident involves serious injury or death that may occur due to the actions of Edmonton police, the police must submit a 46.1 notice if a complaint is filed in a police lawsuit that may cause serious injury or death, or if there is any “severe or sensitive” incident related to the police action.
