Arsenal beats Leicester 5-1 in Women’s Super League, helped by Caitlin Foord double

The star of Matildas, Caitlin Ford, has scored an orthopedic device to lead the 5-1 beating of Leicester City, transferring the three points of the leaders of the Women’s Super League Chelsea.

With Alessia Russo, Chloe Kelly and Daphne Van Domselaar, all disappeared from the team due to an injury, the Arsenal Chief, Renee Slegers, made five changes to the side that beat Crystal Palace 4-0.

After only 10 minutes on Tuesday, Frida Maanum shot a cross to the back post with Ford there to pack her tenth goal this season.

Ford also played a role in Arsenal’s second goal, with a well weighted pass through the square so that Stina Blackstenius takes advantage of.

The Australian end continued its strong performance before part time, finding the network once again.

It was played by Mariona Caldentey and hit a quick one with Blackstenius, before hitting the ball from the top of the box.

His shot fired a deviation when a Leicester defender slipped to stop, but Janina Leitzig could not stop the ball hitting the back of the network.

The gunners extended the advantage to four at the beginning of the second half before Yuka Momiki recovered one for visitors.

The fifth goal of Arsenal came from the substitute Victoria Pelva, the Dutch midfielder scoring for the first time since he returned from a LCA injury earlier this year.

While Arsenal’s attention is now going to the Champions League, Slegers wants his team to take the race for the WSL title until the end.

“For us it was important for us to focus on this game,” he said after the game.

“We know there were four WSL games now that there are three. We wanted to win four of four, so this result is important.

“We did many things very well today.”

In the Champions League, Arsenal receives the first stage of the semifinal against Lyon in northern London on Saturday, where they won their last eight games in all competitions for an aggregate score of 31-2.
