The US Army says it is looking at the options to make its holiday on the 250th birthday in June “bigger”, with possible demonstrations and displays of vehicles in the national mall in a multi-day event, which may include a military parade, although employees say no decisions were made.
The army’s holiday, which has been working for several months, has nourished speculation that President Donald Trump will try to turn the event as the great military parade he wanted in his first administration. Trump shares a birthday with the army on June 14th.
ABC News turned to the White House for comment.
DC city officials told reporters this week that they have turned to a parade route from the Pentagon to Arlington, Virginia, Washington. The other two US officials have confirmed that a military parade is being discussed, although it was not clear how big the parade would be.

“Military tanks on our streets would not be good. If military tanks are used, they should be accompanied by many millions of dollars to repair the roads,” said DC Mayor Muriel Bowser.
Heather Hagan, a spokesman for the US Army, said on Tuesday that the parade’s decision was “preserving”. She noted that the army plans to celebrate its main birthday with “multiple events” leading to June 14, including a festival in the National Mall.
“We intend to have a national holiday to increase pride in America and the US Army,” she wrote in a statement. “Given the significant stage of 250 years, the army explores the options to make the holiday more large, with more demonstrations of abilities, static manifestations of equipment and more commitment to the community.”
Trump’s 2018 vision for the parade included vintage planes and fighter jets that diverge on the streets of Washington with heavy tanks below. But the event never materializes, as city authorities are repelled and cost estimates exceeded tens of millions of dollars.
If a parade was held, it would significantly affect the city’s infrastructure, according to city officials. Bowser said the bridge on 14th street would have to be tested before the event.
The emblematic bridge has undergone several significant repairs and maintenance in recent decades, most of all after the Air Florida 90 crash in 1982.
