More energy relief is on its way with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to shave another $ 150 discount on energy invoices as part of a pre -election launch for voters.
The Albanese government will now extend subsidies until the end of 2025 with $ 150 automatically applied to electricity invoices again, in quarterly installments.
Albanese said that the number one priority of the government was to help the family budget.
“This is another measure of relief relief that my government is delivering to the Australians while exerting a downward pressure on inflation,” he said in a statement.
“Peter Dutton opposed the relief of the energy bill of $ 300 to households. Its only energy plan is a nuclear scheme of $ 600 billion that will reduce Medicare to pay.”
The opposition promised to support the movement, but criticized it as a “desperate act.”
“At some point this scheme of Ponzi, the government is executing where they get money out of their pocket through taxes and then return it and expect to say thank you,” said the opposition leader, Peter Dutton.
According to treasure estimates, the measure will reduce the inflation of the holders by about half of a percentage point and reduce household bills by 7.5 percent on average nationwide, compared to invoices without extension.
The Albanese government said the subsidies resulted in electricity prices to fall by 25.2 percent in 2024, but would only have dropped by 1.6 percent without reimbursements.
The extension of the reimbursements of the energy invoice will cost taxpayers $ 1.8 billion over the term estimates.
The shadow treasurer, Angus Taylor, asked that the savings be made by looting public servants of “backward offices.”
“We will have to support this [electricity bill relief] Otherwise, the Australians will ruin, “said the leader of the nationals, David Littleprouud.
“This is the last desperate act of a government that has lost control of its energy bill and its food bill.”
