The White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood called a sketch that makes her teeth “meant and unpleasant”.
The 31-year-old British actress posted an Instagram story about the joke on the US TV show Saturday Night Live (SNL), in which comedian Sarah Sherman used exaggerated prosthetic teeth to make an impression of her.
In the Skit, entitled The White Potus, Donald Trump and his family were restarted as the White Lotus Ratliff family, with the setback to the US president’s recently imported rates.
The third season of Mike White’s hit hotel drama has just ended on Sky Atlantic.
While the other characters in the Skit were shown in the cover of political figures in real life, Wood, who plays Chelsea in the show, was in character talking about a monkey.
Wood said she was the only character in the piece that was “pitched”.
She also said that part of the parody that has a joke about fluoride should be removed over the tap water after recent debates in the US, because she has “big gap teeth and not bad teeth”.
Wood wrote: “Yes, take the piss – that’s what the show is all about – but there must be a smarter, more nuanced, less cheap way?”
The Stockport-born star also marked Sherman’s poor attempt at a Mancunian accent.
But Wood further said that she did not personally hate on Sherman, just ‘on the concept’.
Wood also labeled an online remark that says, “It was a sharp and funny skit until it suddenly took a screaming turn in the 1970s -Misogy,” add, “it comes to my view”.
After sharing her opinions, Wood said she received “thousands of messages in accordance”, and so “glad I said something”.
Wood commented on support she received.
One, from an unnamed fan, said she also had “a big gap” in her teeth, as well as “an overbyter”, and that although she had previously considered spending thousands to fix it, “see Wood” beautifully “on the white lotus.
Wood said SNL has apologized for her ever since.
Wood previously said during an appearance on the Jonathan Ross performance, that the positive receipt of her actions was “a real moment after she was bullied for my teeth”.
NBC, which sends SNL, was contacted for comment.
