The head of the Islamic State (IS) in Iraq and Syria died in an air strike in the west of Iraq, according to Iraqi officials and US military commanders.

Details of the operation in Iraq were described by the US Central Command (Centcom) who said on X that it had already carried out “a precision air attack in the province in collaboration with the Iraqi intelligence and security forces.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al Sudani on Friday described Khadija as “one of the most dangerous terrorists in Iraq and the world”.
In a statement about X, he added: “The Iraqi continues with their impressive victories over the powers of darkness and terrorism.”
Details of the air raid coincided with the first visit by Syria’s Top diplomat to Iraq, during which the two countries promised to work together to fight.
