Brother of former hostage Eli Sharabi says he was tortured and starved while captive in Gaza | World News

The image of Israeli hostage Eli Sharabi is released from Gaza a little over two weeks ago, and he has brilliantly and weak, shocked and watching Israel and leaders around the world.

His brother Sharon, who fought for months to secure his release, told Sky News that Eli was tortured by Hamas and barely daylight, but that he slowly but surely recovered after almost sixteen months in Gasa.

“Since the first day, Eli was held in extremely difficult circumstances, dozens of meters underground and the treatment he received from his prisoners was very, very humiliating and very threatening,” Sharon said.

Sharon, who was an attentive Jew, did not see the direct television feed of his brother’s release because it happened over Shabbat, but he barely recognized his brother or sister when reunited in the hospital a few hours later is.

“Eli is hungry in an extreme way. He was humiliated, beaten. He did not get minimal circumstances to live. The most basic things a person needs for his health – to breathe in clean air and drink clean water.

“He was kept in captivity in very difficult circumstances, which included extreme hunger, torture, humiliation for 16 months in the tunnels of Hamas. I think his appearance says it all.”

Eli was taken from his home in Kibbutz on October 7, 2023.

“I’ll be back, I’ll come back to you,” he promised his British wife Lianne, and teenage daughters Noiya and Yahel, when he was dragged in Gaza.

Since Eli was penetrated on stage by Hamas Prior to his release, he said he was looking forward to being reunited with them – it was only when he reached Israel that he found out that they were dead.

The family received specialist advice to help them deliver the tragic news to Eli.

“Then he asked, ‘Where are Lianne and the girls? “And when they told him that they did not survive on October 7, it broke his heart.

“We know that from this extraordinary low, you may not be able to drop the lowest point. We are going to embrace Eli, and we are going to process him this terrible loss.”

Eli’s release, after 490 days in captivity, was a bitter moment for the family.

Yossi Sharabi, Eli and Sharon’s brother were also kidnapped on October 7, 2023 and his body is still in Gaza.

Hamas said Yossi was killed by Israeli air strikes, which according to an IDF investigation was likely.

Although it could not exclude the possibility of being killed by his Hamas prisoners.

The family is striving to get him back so that he can be buried properly. Any disruption to the truce could threaten it.

‘We’ve been in this battle for 16 months now and I think everyone at least deserves that their people are brought back for a final resting place.

“If it is not on their feet and alive, at least, even if the person loses his life, he must be brought back with dignity, he must get the right respect, to bring back to his land, to his country .

‘Yossi is very missed, it is a great loss for humanity in general, but especially for his family, his wife and daughters, who survived the brutal attack of Hamas on October 7.

“And my dedication, just as I fought for Eli, I will fight for Yossi, and for all the hostages, until the last one, to try to process what happened to us and especially to try to return to my private life to my private life , the life I had before October 7. ‘

The first phase of the Gaza wind is almost complete – four more bodies of the hostages will be released on Thursday – but there was little negotiation over the next phase.

Unless an agreement can be reached to temporarily expand phase one, the war can resume, and with 63 hostages still held in Gaza.
