Four Iranians among five arrested in UK over alleged terror plot

British The anti -terrorism police arrested five men, including four Iranian citizens, under suspicion of planning a terrorist law, a statement from the London Metropolitan Police said on Sunday.

The investigation is related to a suspicious plot to aim at a specific location, according to the statement, which added that men were arrested during raids in several directions throughout the country on Saturday.

“This is a fast movement investigation and we are working closely with those on the affected place to keep them up to date,” said Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the command against MET terrorism.

The Met Police has not said which site was the objective of the alleged attack.

He said the men were arrested in the areas of the Great Manchester and London, as well as in the southern city of Swindon.

“The research is still in its early stages and we are exploring several lines of research to establish any potential motivation, as well as to identify if there may be any additional risk for the public linked to this matter,” Murphy said.

Four of the men are Iranian citizens, aged between 29 and 46, and have been arrested under the Terrorism Law of Great Britain, according to the police statement.

The nationality of the fifth man, whose age was not provided, was still being established and the MET statement said it had been arrested under the Police Law and Criminal Evidence.

The five remain in police custody.

“We understand that the public can be worried and, as always, I would ask them to remain attentive and if they see or listen to something that worries them, that they communicate with us,” Murphy said.
