In the spirit of John F. Kennedy, seeking peace agreements, humanizing his enemy and negotiating what you know that the other side wants, a reprise to my previous post about peace agreements to Ukraine.
The United States and Ukraine signed a peace agreement to share future sales of Ukrainian minerals and rare land.
In its extremely commercial mental framework, this allowed President Trump to be sufficiently encouraged for the United States to continue “investing” in the defense of Ukraine and its reconstruction.
Now all that Trump and the team need to do is broker the real peace agreement with Russia. And good luck with that.
What the United States and Ukraine will be forming is a “reconstruction investment fund”, with each side with 50% voting rights. In an earlier era, the Marshall plan would be something called Marshall. Maybe we can call it Zelynsky’s plan. They need not pay anything for all the volumes of weapons they have received from the US since Russia invaded in February 2022.
Also this does not mean that the United States receive shares from the Ukrainian companies owned by the existing state. Fund’s income will come from new licenses for critical minerals and oil and gas projects, not projects that have already begun.
As far as I am aware, this is Trump’s first successful agreement from his second term presidency.
United States Treasury Department Secretary Scott Bessant said the historical agreement “clearly signals to Russia that the Trump government is committed to a free, sovereign, and prosperous Ukraine peace process.” Also: “To be clear, no state or person who funded or provided the Russian war machine may benefit from the reconstruction of Ukraine.”
It is not strange for the United States to have a president who is more pro-index-protection than Sutch or Semple, he hates more international military ventures than Prime Minister Kirk, deeply suspiciously all profound state intelligence networks more than Prime Minister Whitlam, President Eisenhower and Prime Minister Helen Clark gathered and in 50 50th The anniversary of the day since the fall of Saigon in the US catastrophic defeat in the Vietnam War was really a long way to end Europe’s worst war from World War II as if he were a Jeffrey Sachs disciple?
This agreement is worse than the stranger. Don’t be fooled by what Zelynsky and her ministers say. It is a bargain of the condemned. Trump is a world leader transforming destruction into pure trade. It is not peace negotiations to save lives, pursue the cruel and prioritize human dignity. It is the commercial cruelty disguised as honor.
