More than 1,000 miles of roadworks will be lifted in England to have millions of motorists a ‘smooth’ trip over the Easter holidays.
Road works of 1.127 miles of highways and large roads are removed by the national highways from 06:00 on Thursday, which means that 97.5% of its network will be free of traffic cones.
The roadworks will only be re -established after Easter Monday.
According to the AA, an estimated 19.1 million people in the United Kingdom will drive on Good Friday, along with 18.5 million who hit the road on Saturday and 18.2 million on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.
Andrew Butterfield, director of operational services, said: “We expect the roads to be busy with people who want to utilize the best out of a long Easter weekend.
“That’s why we make trips easier by removing a large number of road works.”
Despite the RAC on Thursday, Good Friday and Saturday, a ‘hat -trick of containers’, while families try to get the best out of the end of the school holidays.
‘Plan ahead’
Mr. Butterfield requested motorists to ‘take time to plan ahead’, as he said: ‘Two of the top three causes of collapses are tire problems and empty fuel tanks.
“You can help prevent any crashes by following our advice: Fill your fuel, oil and screen wax, plan your trip, look at your tires and prepare you for all weather conditions.”
