A New Mexico man was arrested for allegedly firing a Tesla showroom and an office of the Republican Party in the state, and up to 40 years behind bars could face.
Jamison Wagner, 40, a resident of Albuquerque, was detained in the Tesla Albuquerque showroom and the Republican Party of New Mexico headquarters in February and March.
Investigators linked the suspect to the attacks through supervision material and theater evidence.
Officials responded to the showroom on February 9, according to reports of two burning Model Y car cars outside. The cars sustained damage, with one vehicle destroyed. After an investigation, police determined that the fire was intentionally caused.
In addition, officials have observed signs of vandalism throughout the property, including spray -painted graffiti that “the Elon” and “Tesla Nazi Inc.” read. Some of the letters in the phrases have been replaced by symbols representing a swastika, the Justice Department said in a news release.
Five to six vehicles in the parking lot were also sprayed with similar Swastika symbols on windshields, windows and body teams. Some of the cars sustained mechanical damage to the windows and revealed that someone was trying to break into the cars. A pitcher of the triggered fluid was recovered from the scene.
Supervision material of the attack showed that a light -colored sedan was parked east of the showroom. Wagner allegedly approached the facility on foot while wearing all black clothes, a black mask and cape and a white box.
According to police, he used spray paint out of the box to draw the graffiti before breaking windows on multiple vehicles. He then placed a container or burning device in the two Tesla cars that set fire to, police said, adding that he had a flashing light in his hand, in line with an ignition source. A flame then appeared in one of the cars.
The suspect left the area shortly after the fire started in one of the vehicles. At one point, his cape fell back and unveiled an exiles, police said, and helped them lead to Wagner.
Fire officials later responded to a fire at the Republican Party of the New Mexico office on March 30. When the authorities responded, they observed flames at the door to the suite. Officials set out the fire shortly after it started. The building sustained damage to the front door, entrance/foyer and smoke extension through the office.
Graffiti with the phrase “ice = kkk” was spotted on the southern wall. After an investigation, officials stipulated that the cause of the fire was arson. Evidence restored at the scene matched evidence from the Tesla Showroom Fire. According to police, Wagner Molotov -Cocktails used to start the fires.
During a search of the man’s home, investigators found a white cardboard box with eight composite appliances, black and red spray paint, materials for the production of additional fire devices and upset liquids in line with gasoline.
Officials also seized a black jacket with a red spray paint that matched the surveillance material of the showroom Fire and found a cardboard cover that read “Ice = KKK”.
A vehicle corresponding to the description of a car at the flame was in the man’s garage.
“Let it be the last lesson for those who participate in this constant wave of political violence,” said attorney General Pamela Bondi said in a written statement announcing Wagner’s arrest. “We will arrest you, we will prosecute you, and we will not negotiate. Crimes have consequences. ‘
The arrest is the latest in a series of crimes around the world that targets Teslas, super -drivers and traders due to Elon Musk’s role with the Department of Government Efficiency, which oversees the firing of thousands of federal workers.
Wagner has been charged with two counts of malicious damage or destruction of property by fire or explosives and will remain in custody, pending a detention hearing that has not yet been determined.
If convicted, he stands up for five and 20 years in prison for each score.
