Katy Perry and five other women successfully launched the space on the first female mission in more than six decades on Monday.
The crew raised aboard an autonomous rocket made by Blue Origin, the private space firm owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
“I don’t really have words for it,” Lauren Sanchez, fiancé of the billionaire, said in an interview after the flight. She said they had to see the moon. “The earth looked just as quiet.”
“It’s the highest highlight and it’s surrendering to the unknown,” says Perry. “I couldn’t recommend this experience anymore.”
Perry and Sanchez were also joined by CBS News host Gayle King, former Nasa rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Keriane Flynn.
The only other female crew in 64 years of human space cruise was in 1963.
The rocket lifted local time as part of Blue Origin Flight NS-31 at about 8.30am. The crafts flew through space for about four minutes before drifting back to earth, with the entire journey lasting a little over ten minutes.
When he is in space, Perry sang the song “What a Wonderful World”.
“It was a feeling of joy. It was a feeling of gratitude,” Sanchez added.
When was the last female space cruise?
Monday’s launch of Blue Origin was the country’s first female space.
The only other female crew was in 1963 when the Soviet food Monaut Valentina Tereshkova was introduced by herself and became the first woman in space.
Tereshkova spent three days outside the earth.
