The mayor of Otago, Central Otago Alley, announced that he will run for a position in this year’s local elections.

In a statement this afternoon, Alley said “she was deeply committed to Central Otago and his residents and helping to shape a future in which we continue to prosper as communities.”

“My vision is an intergenerational community where everyone has the opportunity to succeed and live their best lives.

“I believe in transparent governance and will work tirelessly to ensure that our whole people have the opportunity to contribute to our vision.”

Former police police officer and second term counselor, Alley was appointed to the office by the Otago district counselors in October last year after the resignation of former Mayor Tim Cadogan.

If elected, their priorities were “innovative housing solutions, including opportunities for partnership with private suppliers, diversifying council income flows to be less dependent on fees and establishing a long -term solution for water and wastewater that gives the best result for all water consumers.”
