The Classic Fighters Air Show in Marlborough was canceled four days before starting, with the weather forecast letting fly.

The show, held at the Omaka Aerodrome in Blenheim, every second Easter, would be held from 18 to 20 April.

But in a statement issued Monday, the organizers said the 2025 show was canceled due to the “Severus Climate Event expected in the coming days”.

“The combined classic fighters and the confidence relations of the Omaka Aviation Heritage Center gathered this afternoon and determined that the risks involved in the attempt to perform CF2025 on Easter are very significant. This decision necessary immediately to allow all participants to mitigate the effects of that decision.”

The organizers said it was a security issue.

“The forecast of the meteorological event for Easter indicates almost a week of rain, low clouds, lower level winds and turbulence that would prohibit any display flying over Easter. Confidence relationships should pay attention to the general air safety conditions for pilots and the public on the floor.”

The administrator of the classic fighters, Brian Greenall, said all the holders were being contacted to advise them that the program was canceled “and to advise when they can expect some clarity around the investment in tickets.”

The last show in 2023 was the first in four years, after two attempts to perform the show in 2021 were frustrated by Covid-19 restrictions.
