Rugby Union still generates more ACC injury claims, costing $ 147.5 million last year.

As the first matches of the winter sports season begin, the ACC is remembering that amateur sportsmen condition their bodies by action.
The ACC said the claims of sports injuries such as football, netball, basketball, rugby union and rugby alloy hit the peak of May early in the season.
ACC injury prevention leader James Whitaker said things like remaining active in the off -season, warming and cooling, along with stretching, would help reduce the risk of injury.
“One of the best ways to prepare your body and avoid the pain of injury early in the season is starting your training well before the start of the season,” said Whitaker. “Gradually build the intensity in the accumulation of the season and put your body in the movements you will use in the game.
“Dynamic warming should be done before each training and game, and the same with a cold after play/training to gradually bring your body back to a rest state, to help your body recover. This is also a good time to include static stretching.”
The claims and costs of injury and sports injuries have constantly increased in the last five years.
Between 2020-24, ACC data showed that 106,099 Netball claims cost US $ 181.4 million, 262,700 Rugby unions cost US $ 566.5 million, 204,383 football claims cost $ 286.5 million and 35,695 Rugby League claims cost $ 103.8 million.
Last year, the cost of supporting people with rugby union injuries exceeded $ 147.5 million to support 59,242 complaints, football -related injuries cost $ 78.5 million for 48,232 claims, the Rugby League cost $ 29.5 million per 10,079 claims and claims of Netball.
The age groups with the highest number of sports related to sports related last year were 15 to 19 years (3061), followed by young people aged 10 to 14 (2511), 20-24 years (1711), 25-29-year-olds (1055) and 30-34 years (780).
Football and Netball injuries were more common among people aged 10 to 14, while Rugby and Rugby League injuries were more common among children aged 15 to 19.
Whitaker said it was important for players to devote themselves to activities they would do in their games.
“It is important for coaches to educate players and emphasize the importance of complete warming before training and games to prepare their bodies and minds.
“A warming should include a combination of activation and dynamic exercises adapted for the game and be completed before each training and game. A cold should include static stretches to help your body recover and be completed after each training and game.”
“Without a focused warm -up, players risk injury and will not be ready to go to the whistle.
“It’s really important to step back and think about how you can get better for next season. It includes your fitness, skill work and fitness for impact sports,” Whitaker said.
