A man died after an explosion in a home in Worksop.
The victim was pulled out of the rubble of a house in John Street in his fifties at 19.39.
Despite attempts by paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The property of the terrace was destroyed and “significant damage was also done to neighboring houses,” police said in Nottinghamshire.
The power launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion, adding that everyone who was in the area is now responsible.
One neighbor tells The independent: “I was watching, my daughter said someone was killed – it’s horrible.”
Chief Inspector Clive Collings, Of police in Nottinghamshire said: “This is an extremely serious incident that led to the untimely death of a man.
‘The man’s family was notified and supported by specially trained officers.
“I don’t doubt this incident will be a shock to the community in Worksop.”
Several residents of In and around John Street were evacuated as emergency services worked on the scene and supported by our colleagues of the Nottinghamshire County Council.
Chief Inspector Clive Collings added: “It is likely that the cordon and road closures will remain in place for some time if we conduct our investigations.
“I also want to acknowledge the cooperation of locals and thank them for their patience.”
