Marshall sees good in Tigers winning while ‘average’

Coach Benji Marshall knows that his Wests Tigers do not have to play dazzling football for which he was once famous to win games.

And as far as he is concerned, that is something good.

The Tigers stayed between 20 and 6 victors against a Newcastle Knights outfit at the McDonald Jones stadium on Sunday.

This was far from the tigers at their best. They had 40 plays in the 20 -meter attacking area and scored four of them.

Like the gentlemen, they made 14 mistakes, but the difference was the way they could repel Newcastle at key moments both at the beginning and at the end of the first half.

It was the kind of things that Marshall believes that it would not have happened last year, when the Tigers were the worst defensive side in the NRL and let an average of 31.25 points per game into.

“We have tried to change our club to a club of type of defensive mentality, and the players have to buy it,” he said.

“We brought a couple of types that lead that, like Jarome (Luai).

“I thought our attack was average tonight, if I’m honest.

“We had a lot of possession in the middle, within its 20 in which we should have capitalized.

“By saying that, we are still building who we are as an attack. Obviously, our new column played three games together.”

Marshall’s men now sit within the first eight after the sixth round for the first time since 2020, since they shoot for their first appearance in the finals in 14 years.

The Tigers surpassed the Knights in Newcastle, with Sunia Turuva scoring their seventh attempt of the season and Terrell May carving 150 meters, the second more in the field.

The fullback Jahream Bula also shone while helping and scored an attempt against a dull defense of the knights.

In comparison, Newcastle’s only attempt arrived at the last minute, when Turuva could not clean food.

“In the context of our season, which coming out of consecutive losses and getting to a place like Newcastle with how nois is its crowd, it is really difficult to play,” said Marshall.

“I was really disappointed with that last attempt, if I am being honest, but at the same time you must put in context where we have come from last year where we are now and celebrate obtaining two points.”
