Iran says ‘indirect discussions’ about the country’s rapidly promoting nuclear program is underway with US officials.
The discussions Saturday were held in Muscat, Oman, with the host country officials who were between representatives of Iran and the US, which was sitting in separate rooms, according to Esmail Baghaei, a spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry.
He also told Iran’s state -TV that he did not expect “this round of talks to be long”.
“It’s a beginning. So it’s normal for the two parties to offer their fundamental positions through the Omani intermediary,” he said.

He told Iran’s state -TV: ‘Our intention is to reach a fair and honorable agreement – of equal footing.
“And if the other side also went off the same position, God will, there will be a chance for an initial agreement that could lead to a path of negotiations.”
Reuters News Agency said an Omani source said the talks were focused on unbundling regional tension, exchange of prisoners and limited agreements to facilitate sanctions in exchange for the control of Iran’s nuclear program.
It is also said that Mr. Araghchi leads the delegation of Iran, while Mr. Trump’s envoy in Middle East Steve Witkoff The US side.

Trump on Monday: ‘We’re in direct conversations with Iran’
President Donald Trump insisted that Tehran can’t get nuclear weapons.
He said on Monday that the talks would be direct, but Tehran officials insisted that it be conducted by an intermediary.
Mr Trump too warned Iran would be in ‘great danger’ if negotiations failed.
“Hopefully these discussions will be successful, it will be in the best interests of Iran if they are successful,” he said. “We hope it’s going to happen,” he said.
He added Iran “cannot have a nuclear weapon, and if the talks are not successful, I think it will be a very bad day for Iran”.
The remarks came after the previous warnings of Mr. Trump over possible military action against Iran if it has not ended its nuclear program.

Saturday’s meeting was the first between the countries since the second term of Mr. Trump started in the White House.
During his first term, he withdrew the US from an agreement between Iran and world powers designed to combat Iran’s core work in exchange for relieving sanctions.
He also renamed US sanctions.
Iran has since far exceeded limiting the transaction on uranium enrichment.
Tehran insists that his nuclear program is entirely for civil energy purposes, but Western powers accuse it of having a clandestine agenda.
Mr Witkoff come from conversations With Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday about a peace agreement in Ukraine.
