Jaden Martinovich was described by the family as kind, loving and affectionate, but a night meeting in North Perth to sell false drugs in August 2022 showed another side.
Martinovich did not realize that he was being created when one of his teammates, who was also the best friend of the 17 -year -old victim, plotted a plan to steal Martinovich’s car.
Martinovich, who was 18 at that time, was beaten in the head with a hammer before the victim took off in his hatchback.
Martinovich tried to stop him and stabbed the 17 -year -old once in his heart.
Fleeing from the scene, Martinovich eliminated the knife in a drain and then was recorded on a board that said: “I’m going to sleep like a baby tonight knowing that I sank a knife in some vital organs.”
In the sentence, Judge Bruno Fiannaca told the Supreme Court of WA that “the crime was the tragic culmination of silly and reckless decisions of two young people trying to act as gangsters.”
He accepted that Martinovich was really regretful, saying that his comments after stabbing were projecting a “hard -type character or gangster.”
The judge also took into account the fact that Martinovich had been put in protective custody not long after the murder. That came after his jaw was broken in a prison attack by someone known by the victim.
Martinovich’s parents were in court today, since the now 21 -year -old was sentenced to life imprisonment after bars.
You will have to turn 14 years before being eligible for probation.
