A mother who killed her two young boys in the bath was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of more than 21 years.

Kara Alexander was convicted of drowning of Elijah Thomas, two, and Marley Thomas (five) in the house they shared in December 2022 in Dagenham, East London.

Alexander, 47, who denied two charges of murder, was convicted in February at Kingston Crown Court.

After the boys on the boys found that they were either drowned or suffocated – but Alexander assumed during the hearing that she had put them in the bath before they accidentally drowned.

The jury heard how the boy’s father would have them that weekend and became more and more concerned when he didn’t hear from Alexander.

When he arrived at their home, she told him the children were sleeping upstairs.

He found the boys’ bodies together in the lower bunk bed of their shared bunk bed dressed in Pajamas, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said.

The ambulance service and the police attended it, but there was nothing that could be done for the boys as they were dead for a few hours.

When he came down to call for help, Alexander ran away. It took the police about an hour to find her.
